Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) Bulb

Bulb size: 24/26
Planting depth: 5 cm
Planting period: October–November
Blooming period: November–December
Plant height: 60 cm
Flower diameter: approx. 20 cm

Planting and care instructions:

  • Before planting, soak the base and roots of the bulb in lukewarm water for a few hours. Planting can be done from October until the end of April.

  • Use a pot about 2.5 cm wider than the bulb. Amaryllis prefers slightly smaller pots.

  • Ensure the pot has drainage hole(s).

  • Plant the bulb in fertile compost. Avoid damaging the roots during planting.

  • Fill the pot partially with soil, place the bulb so that the top third remains above the soil, then fill the rest of the soil.

  • Water well after planting, then avoid regular watering until green shoots appear. If the soil dries out, water no more than once a week. Overwatering can damage the roots and cause rot — one of the main reasons amaryllis fails to grow.

  • Place the pot in indirect light and keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.

  • Keep the plant at room temperature.

  • Rotate the pot every few days so the flower stem grows straight and evenly.

  • Initially, the flowers will appear green, then gradually develop their true color.

  • Repot the amaryllis every 3–4 years after its “rest” period, before flowering.
