WHITE MUSTARD - Green manure 1 KG

Mustard green manure is a simple way to improve soil structure and add organic matter. Mustard is a fast-growing green manure crop that quickly develops abundant green foliage. When cut down and incorporated into the soil, the plant material decomposes, adding organic matter and helping to maintain soil fertility.

Why sow mustard as green manure?

✓ Improves soil structure and helps maintain good air and water movement through the soil

✓ Supports soil life by providing organic material for beneficial soil microorganisms

✓ Helps suppress weeds thanks to its rapid growth and dense foliage

✓ Protects the soil surface and helps reduce erosion and nutrient loss

✓ Prepares the soil for the next growing season by adding plant material that decomposes in the soil

When and how to sow mustard

Mustard can be sown from spring through to late summer or early autumn, depending on local weather conditions. It germinates quickly and can produce a good amount of green growth within just a few weeks.

For best results, cut the plants down before flowering and incorporate the green material into the top layer of soil. Alternatively, the cut foliage can be left on the soil surface as a protective mulch, where it will gradually decompose.

Where to use mustard green manure

Mustard is suitable for vegetable gardens, greenhouses, orchards and other areas of bare soil after harvesting. Used regularly as part of a crop rotation and soil management plan, it can help maintain soil fertility and may reduce the need for additional fertilisers.

Important: Mustard belongs to the brassica (cabbage) family, so it should not be sown immediately before or after other brassica crops, such as cabbage, radishes or turnips. These plants can share certain pests and diseases, including clubroot, so choosing a different green manure crop is advisable when brassicas are part of your rotation.
