From familiar favourites to unusual varieties with distinctive colours and flavours, it is a wonderful collection for gardeners who want to explore the delicious world of homegrown melons.

The collection includes:

Watermelons Zloto Wolicy H, Rosario H, Janosik, Charleston Gray, Sugar Baby, Crimson Sweet, Orangeglo, and melons Honey Dew, Cantalupo di Charentais, Ananas, Malaga H, and Seledyn F1.

Sweet, fragrant, and full of flavours

One of the most exciting things about growing melons is discovering just how much variety there can be. Watermelons can range from classic red-fleshed favourites to unusual varieties with yellow or orange flesh, while melons offer their own wonderful selection of aromas, textures and flavours.

Janosik is particularly distinctive, with its unusual yellow flesh. Orangeglo is another eye-catching variety, valued for its vibrant orange colour and sweet flavour. For classic watermelon lovers, Crimson Sweet is a wonderful choice, while Sugar Baby produces smaller fruits that are particularly appealing for home gardens.

The melon selection brings a completely different range of flavours and aromas to the collection. Honey Dew is a classic sweet melon with refreshing, juicy flesh, while Cantalupo di Charentais is a French-style cantaloupe known for its wonderfully aromatic character. Ananas adds something different again, making this collection particularly enjoyable for gardeners who like to experiment with less familiar varieties.

There is something especially rewarding about cutting open a melon that has been grown from your own seed and discovering the colour, aroma, and flavour inside.

Perfect gift for the bold gardener in your life

This collection makes a wonderful gift for anyone who enjoys growing unusual crops and experimenting with different varieties. With 12 different melons and watermelons, it offers plenty of possibilities for gardeners who want to turn a sunny growing space into a summer fruit garden.

Growing and care

Melons and watermelons are warmth-loving plants and perform best in a warm, sunny and sheltered position. In cooler climates, growing them in a greenhouse, polytunnel or other protected environment can help provide the long, warm growing season they need.

Sow seeds indoors in spring or directly outdoors once the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Keep seedlings warm and well lit, and gradually acclimatise young plants before planting them into their final growing position.

Provide fertile, well-drained soil and keep plants consistently watered, particularly while the fruits are developing. Avoid allowing the soil to dry out completely, but take care not to leave the roots sitting in water.

The plants can produce vigorous vines, so allow plenty of room for them to spread. In smaller growing spaces, suitable support can be used where appropriate, although larger fruits may need additional support.

As the fruits develop, reduce watering slightly as they approach ripeness, while continuing to monitor the plants carefully. Harvest when the fruits show signs of maturity according to the characteristics of each variety.

For the best results, give melons and watermelons plenty of warmth, sunlight, water and space, and enjoy the anticipation of harvesting your own sweet summer fruits.
