Frequently Asked Questions

Which flower bulbs should be planted in autumn? Which ones in spring?

Tulips, daffodils, crocuses, and hyacinths are usually planted in the autumn to bloom in the spring.

Gladioli, dahlias, begonias, and other summer and autumn-blooming flowers are planted in the spring.

How many flower bulbs do I plant per m²?

Typically, about 20 flower bulbs per m². For smaller bulbs, for example crocus, you'll want more, about 50 to 200 flower bulbs per m². Larger bulbs, like tulips or daffodils - 15 to 25 flower bulbs per m².

Do flower bulbs come back every year?

It depends! Varieties like daffodils, alliums, crocuses are excellent perennials. They will come back year after year and naturally multiply over time. On the other hand, most modern hybrid tulips perform best as annuals. They may return the second year, but their energy often diminishes, resulting in much smaller blooms.

Can I store bulbs to plant next year if I missed the season?

No, flower bulbs are living organisms with a limited shelf-life. They are meant to be planted in the same season they are harvested. If you buy spring bulbs late and the ground is frozen solid, your best option is to plant them in pots indoors or hold them in a cold garage rather than leaving them in a bag until the following autumn.
