Hybrid tea rose ‘Kronenbourg’ (bicolour) description

‘Kronenbourg’ is a large-flowered, bicolour hybrid tea rose with characteristics of multiple rose varieties. Its flowers are not uniform in colour but consist of two similar or contrasting shades.

The variety was bred in 1966 by Samuel McGredy. The shrub is tall, reaching up to 1.5 m, with dark glossy foliage.

The flowers are expressive, large (8–10 cm), with a high-centred bud shape and a light apple fragrance. The inner petals are pale yellow, while the outer petals are dark red. The flowers open slowly.

This rose looks beautiful both as a standalone plant and in combination with other plants. It is also suitable for cutting. It blooms abundantly from June until late autumn.

It grows well in both sandy and loamy soil and prefers moderately moist conditions.
Optimal soil pH: 6–6.5

Care instructions

Remove all faded flowers and flower clusters. Water regularly during summer—preferably in the morning or evening. Avoid wetting the leaves and flowers.

Prune in early spring or late autumn, leaving shoots at about 15 cm. Cover remaining shoots with soil, peat, or sawdust to protect the plant from frost.
