Medicinal valerian A perennial medicinal plant. Valerian is used as a nervous system sedative to treat insomnia, stress, hysteria, anxiety, irritability, thyroid hyperfunction, neuroses and migraines. Valerian is best suited to fertile loamy soils, grows well in peaty soils and even clay, but then it is difficult to wash its roots. Valerian rhizomes with roots are dug up in October or March and the raw material excavated in autumn is of better quality. Valerian is drought averse. |
